When I think about time management, I usually think about school. However, time management is equally important during the summer while interning! So today I’m sharing my top tips for managing your time well, which will help you decrease stress and increase productivity.
Top 5 Time Management Tips!
#1 – Make a Weekly Schedule
I like to do this every Sunday, and I plan out my entire week. This includes work tasks, meetings, workouts, content to post for The Legal Confidential, things I need to get done, literally everything! I find that when I plan more than a week in advance during the summer, I don’t know enough about my schedule to properly plan because my work schedule varies.
#2 – Make a To-Do List Every NIGHT
If you’ve read my blog for a while, you know I SWEAR by this. When you make your To-Do list for the next day at night, then you wake up ready to go and don’t have to worry about planning or not knowing where to start.
#3 – Time Yourself
I have ADHD and struggle with focusing, so this might not be necessary for everyone. But for me, I like to time myself when working on specific tasks to discourage multitasking, and to increase my awareness of how much time I’m spending on things. This also helps because you can choose a set amount of time to work before taking a break, and then you know exactly when to take breaks. I also love timing myself because when I feel like I “did nothing,” I can go back and remember “Oh I actually spent 2 hours on that this morning” and remember I did in fact accomplish something.
#4 – Schedule Time for Breaks/ Relaxing
This goes along with tip #3, but remember to schedule your breaks! I usually take a 20 minute break every 2 hours, but you can tailor this to your specific needs. Schedule these breaks in your daily calendar and be sure to actually take breaks! It’s good for your brain 🙂
I also like to make sure to schedule longer periods of time to rest and relax. Whether this is blocking off a night in my planner for date night or scheduling time to be lazy and watch TV, when I set aside this time in advance, it feels like more of a time to rest, rather than feeling guilty for being unproductive.
#5 – Start Your Day at the Same Time Every Day
I know everyone says this, but it is so true. Start your day at the same time every day! This helps you get into a routine that sets you up for productivity and good time management. Waking up at a different time everyday can be stressful, especially when you wake up too late and feel like you don’t have enough time to do the things you normally do.
