I love reading, but ever since starting law school I have found that I rarely read for enjoyment, and I’m sure most law students can relate. With self-quarantine, I’ve found that I have much more free time and I’ve been trying to be intentional about using this time to do things I normally don’t have time for. I’ve listed some of my favorite books below in case anyone is looking for a good read during this time. I’m also a big fan of Audible for when I don’t have time to sit down and read or are tired from reading cases all day. Hope you all enjoy.
- The Defining Decade: Why Your Twenties Matter – And How to Make the Most of Them Now by Meg Jay – This is hands down my favorite self-help book I’ve ever read. The author goes in-depth about how to get your shit together in your twenties, and why the belief that “thirty is the new twenty” is a myth.
- Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens – This book is on everyone’s recommended reading list but I completely understand the hype. This book is such a beautiful story of resiliency, loneliness, inequality, hope, loss, and love. I’ve read this book multiple times and could not recommend it enough.
- Girl Stop Apologizing by Rachel Hollis – This book is amazing. I, like many other women find myself over-apologizing for everthing. I love Rachel’s no-nonsense approach to stop making excuses and owning who you are without apologizing for it.
- Colleen Hoover – I couldn’t choose just one of her books because they are all fantastic. These are my favorite romance books because they’re realistic and not super cliche. Although, who doesn’t love a good Nicholas Sparks book from time to time.
- Red State, Blue State, Rich State, Poor State: Why Americans Vote the Way They Do by Andrew Gelman – I find politics very interesting, but even if you don’t I think you would still find this book interesting. It’s a great book that makes it easier to understand how class, culture, voting, and other factores are related and affect the electoral system.
- This Fight Is Our Fight by Elizabeth Warren – I’m a huge Elizabeth Warren fan and have read all of her books. They’re easy to read but very informative. This is the one I’m reading right now, and it’s all about struggles that the middle class face and how to save America’s middle class.
- Becoming by Michelle Obama – This is what I’ve been listening to on Audible and I’ve really been enjoying it. It’s also very lengthy so you get get more listening time with an Audible credit.
- This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald – This book is great. The protagonist Armory Blaine navigates young adult life in this book, and I find it so interesting to find similarities of the struggles of growing up the character in this book faced a century ago, versus struggles my friends and I have faces.
- The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Mark Manson – This is another book that I listened to on Audible. I love a good self-help book, and this is another one of my favorites because I find that I tend to care far too much about things that I simply should not care or worry about.
