Ever since starting law school, I have gotten really into listening to podcasts. What I like about podcasts is that I can listen to them while doing other things like driving, getting ready, cooking, showering, working out, etc. Podcasts are also great because they can help keep you up to date on current events when you’re busy and don’t have a ton of time to sit down and watch the news or read news articles. Some of the podcasts I’ve listed are more serious or educational, and some are just fun to listen to. I listen to a ton of podcasts (probably too many), but I figured I would share some of my favorites in case you’re looking for some suggestions! Hope you all enjoy.
- The Daily – I’ve listed this podcast first because it is my overall favorite podcast. This podcast by The New York Times discusses some of the most pressing issues in about 20 minutes, five days a week. I listen to this podcast every morning while I get ready and I’ve enjoyed starting my day with this podcast.
- The NPR Politics Podcasts – The Daily discusses politics a lot, but not all of the time. This podcast is usually very brief, with most episodes being under 15 minutes. However, it is very informative and I listen to this most days as well.
- Morning Joe – This podcast is a bit longer and feels like you are watching the news. I feel like I rarely have time to sit down and watch the news in the morning so this is great for a morning commute.
- Pod Save America – Four former aides to President Obama host this podcasts to have honest and non-sugar coated discussions about politics. These episodes are longer and are posted every few days. I find that I listen to this podcast when I have some extra time.
- Political Gabfest – This was voted “Favorite Political Podcast” by Apple Podcasts and it is a very interesting listen. It reminds me of Pod Save America, but is uploaded slighly less frequently.
- Skimm This – I read the Skimm email every morning in case I don’t have much time to read/ watch the news. Their podcast is just as good and goes into more depth than the emails do.
- Betches Sup – I’m a big fan of the Betches podcasts. While not the most in-depth current events podcast, the hosts are very entertaining and easy to listen to. They’ve also been uploading new episodes daily with updates about COVID-19.
- Work in Progress with Sophia Bush – Most of you probably know Sophia Bush from One Tree Hill, but she is an incredibly interesting person, and dedicated social justice activist. Each episode features a new guest, and the conversations on this podcast tend to be very raw and personal which I enjoy.
- ABA Law Student Podcast – This is one of the only law school podcasts that I’ve found. I don’t listen to it all the time, but there are many helpful episodes about issues that affect law students and career advice.
- In the Dark – This podcast was recommended to me by one of my professors, and it is fantastic. I’ve been listening to Season 2 which is about the case of Curtis Flowers, who has been tried six times for the same crime. I haven’t listened to Season 1 yet, but it covers the abduction of Jacob Wetterling in Minnesota, and the accountability of the sheriffs in solving crime.
- Thick & Thin – This podcast is a solo podcast hosted by influencer Katy Bellottee. This is one of the only solo podcasts without guests that I listen to. Katy discusses the good, the bad, and the ugly about living in NYC and navigating life post-grad.
- The Skinny Confidential – Lauryn Bosstick is the podcast queen and I’ve learned so much from this podcast. Lauryn and her husband Michael host this podcast and have a wide variety of guests discussing wellness, health, and lifestyle topics.
- Manifest with Tori Desimone – Tori is a total girl boss and listening to this podcast will inspire you to get your shit together. Tori opened her own spin studio when she was only 20 years old. She covers topics such as manifestation, positivity, productivity, and organization.
- LadyGang – This is one of the first podcasts I ever listened to, and I still listen weekly. This super raw and hilarious podcast features Keltie Knight, Jac Vanek, and Becca Tobin, and most episodes feature a celebrity guest. Similar to how reality shows are guilty pleasures, this is kind of my guilty pleasure podcast.
- Happy Hour with Gretchen Geraghty – A lot of the other podcasts I’ve mentioned are a bit heavier, but I absolutely love this podcast. Gretchen is a Youtuber in Boston who graduated from college last year and I love her energy. She is so happy and positive and covers all sorts of lifestyle topics. This podcast is an easy listen to, and is great for when you’re multi-tasking.
I hope you enjoyed this post, and if there’s any other podcasts you enjoy that I didn’t mention, let me know in the comment section below!
